Event Preview

Hannah Byrd-Leitner, a junior out of Moorestown HS, has the top two clearances of the season for the girls pole vault with a 12-6 state leading height from back in December as well as a 12-3 bar on January 7th.

She's undefeated against New Jersey vaulters in 2024 with seven victories and her only two third place finishes were against out of state competition.

Byrd-Leitner is also the top returner from last winter's MOCs where she placed 5th as a sophomore at 11-0. She won her first Group 3 state title with a 12-0 clearance this winter and has eight meets listed at 12-0+ in 2024.

With this field it is possible we see a run at that 12-7 meet record held by Caroline Dannenbaum of Pingry School since 2020.

Ella Karolewski of Hillsborough HS and Shreya Sathiyan of Morris Hills HS also return from the top eight finishers last winter at MOCs. 

Sathiyan, a junior, currently tied for NJ No. 2 with a 12-1 clearance. After amassing nine straight wins in 2024 her first loss was to Byrd-Leitner in the Group 3 Championship. She has five clearances over 12-0 this indoors.

Karolewski, a senior, is tied with Sathiyan for NJ No. 2 at 12-1. She's undefeated this season with six wins including the Group 4 state title and has cleared 12-0+ twice this winter. 

The Group 2 state champion Rebecca Hoover of Haddonfield has shown solid improvement from her first track and field season last spring. Hoover has cleared 12-0 twice this winter, one to win the state title, and has 10 wins including the Eastern States Championships, 11-6, on February 20th.

She's only lost once to a New Jersey athlete this winter, that was to the top seed Byrd-Leitner during the PJC New Years meet on December 30th.
