Event Preview
With Union Catholic freshman phenom Paige Sheppard most likely focusing on the 1600m and the 4x400m, junior Clemmie Lilley of Rumson-Fair Haven is the clear favorite to capture her first M of C title.
Lilley, who was this close to winning the M of C 800m last spring when she was second by an eyelash, is the state leader with the 2:09.36 she ran at Ocean Breeze last week.
While Lilley is the fastest in the field, she will have to be at her best to come out on top vs. a very strong field, which includes defending champion Peyton Hollis (2:11.00).
Also watch out for Shaelan McNally of Paul VI (2:11.85), Olivia Nickelsen of Toms River North (2:11.98), Jimmiea King of Union Catholic (2:12.74), Reagan Moore of Oak Knoll (2:13.35) , and Mainland's Sofia Day (2:13.96).
Did you know? Only one girl in meet history has gone under 2:10. Victoria Vanriele of Gov. Livingston did it three times, including a meet record 2:08.81 in 2018.
There's a good chance it will take sub 2:10 to win the 4-lapper, so Vanriele's meet record could be on shaky ground.
