The defending champion, state leader at 16-6.25, and US No. 5 ranked Brian O'Sullivan of Hillsborough wasn't able to vault at Sectionals to advance through the NJSIAA series.
Luckily we should get to see him vault at Nationals but his absence has opened this competition for the MOCs title wide open.
The favorite heading in is now NJ No. 2 ranked Damian Scouloukas of Hunterdon Central who has a height of 15-0 this season. He was also tied for the Groups merge lead at 14-0 with NV Old Tappan's Nathan Park and Oakcrest's Ryan Merlino.
Merlino has cleared 14-3 this winter good for NJ No. 4 and Park has vaulted 14-0 to close out the NJ top five.
Then there's also NJ No. 3 ranked Matthew Aono of Ridgewood who made 14-06 at the Varsity Classic in early February
Could turn into a great showdown at the vault on Sunday. Scouloukas will also be busy as he's among the top entries in the triple and long jump showcases as well and could be going back and forth.
