Jimmy Wischusen of Union Catholic, who missed most of the cross-country season with an injury, showed how fit he is by taking over the state lead in this race when he won the Non-Public B title in 9:12.45.
Wischusen, a junior, followed that up with a 4:09.72 anchor carry this past Wednesday on the winning DMR squad that ran a US No. 3 time of 10:11.61.
Wischusen will have plenty of strong competition, although there is some uncertainty about whether Brian Boler of Delbarton and Akshay Vadul of Edison will run.
Boler, the Non-Public A winner in 9:16.65, may just run the 1600m, and there is even a chance he could double. Vadul, who won Group 4 in 9:18.34, may choose the 1600m instead.
Then there is also sophomore Joe Barrett of CBA, who was second to Boler at Non-Public A, but led the seeded section with a 9:16.68 to answer Boler's winning time of 9:16.65 from the previous unseeded heat. He could certainly be in the running for this one at the end.
Group 1 champion Peyton Shute of Woodbury (9:14.51), and Group 2 winner Owen Horevay of Lakeland Regional (9:19.14), will be toeing the line. Avery Keith of Westfield (9:20.77) is also expected to run this race.
