NJ Future Stars: Cole Kober and Maia Zalmover

We will choose one or two underclassmen to highlight as up-and-coming future stars each week!

Maia Zalmover - FR - Ridge HS

Maia Zalmover had a great opening race at the Roxbury Invitational clocking the seventh fastest time overall at 19:19 while competing in the "Fastest 4" division race. As the second runner on her team, this also helped her squad lead the combined merge, scoring 85 points to Mendham's 94.

Her sophomore teammate Isabella Beaudry had a great race as well with the 14th quickest time of 19:42, the leading sophomore athlete for the meet.

Cole Kober - SO - North Hunterdon HS

Cole Kober has started off his sophomore season on the right foot, he was the leading sophomore performer at both the Roxbury Invitational, 10th fastest at 16:07, and the Back to the Mountain Invitational, ninth fastest at 17:18. Dropping considerable time from both these meets last year as a freshman.

During each invitational he helped his team score as one of the top squads in their top five, North Hunterdon was No. 1 in the merge during the Back to the Mountain Invitational averaging 17:15, and they were a close third in the Roxbury merge just a few points behind Chatham and Columbia.

As a freshman last outdoor season Kober ran a 4:29.40 for the 1600m and qualified for Group Championships where he finished 18th in Group 3. Last fall he finished 10th in North 2 Group 3 and 52nd in the Group 3 State Championship race with a Holmdel Park PR of 17:38. Expect that Holmdel time to drop in the coming weeks!
