Christian Brothers Academy, the Haddonfield boys and girls, Conor Daly, and Lindsay Hausman all came up with very strong performances to lead a great showing for New Jersey at Saturday's Bowdoin Park Invitational in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
As usual, CBA, ranked No. 2 in NJ, used this meet to let its top guys run all out for the first time this season, and the Colts came up with an impressive victory in the Varsity 2 Division, 59-96 over Xavier. No. 7 Summit was third with 104.
CBA, which averaged 17:14 on the rugged 3.1-mile course, was led by senior Jack Moran, fifth in 16:42. CBA's other scorers were Nick Sullivan, eighth in 17:03, senior Kyle Hill, 10th in 17:06, sophomore Jack Falkowski, 16th in 17:32, and junior Zach Shroba, 20th in 17:42. CBA ran without one of its top guns, Lucas Ward.
The Haddonfield boys, ranked No. 6, in the state, averaged 17:05 and placed a close second to Corning of NY in the Division 2 race, 34-46., and No. 8 Westfield was third with 104, and No. 19 Don Bosco Prep finished fourth with 141.
Haddonfield, led by senior Seth Clevenger's third-place finish in 16:26, also placed second in the merge with 95 points. Corning won the merge with 75, and CBA was third in the merge with 103.
Haddonfield also received a 6th from senior Tobias Janssen (16:54), a 7th from junior George Andrus (16:59), junior Robert Dimedio, 13th in 17:26, and junior Ian Romea, 17th in 17:37.
Daly, a senior at Westfield, was the fastest runner from NJ, placing second in the Division 2 race in 16:23.
In the girls Division 2 race, No. 6 Haddonfield edged New Milford, 61-67. No. 9 Kent Place finished fourth with 86, and No. 19 Northern Highlands finished sixth with 137. Haddonfield also came out on top in the merge, 71-77 over new Milford.
The Haddonfield girls went 7-10-12-14-18 and averaged 20:28. Junior Helene Usher led the charge for Haddonfield by placing seventh in 19:52. The other scorers for Haddonfield all underclassmen top five were junior Sabrina Miller, 10th in 20:13, sophomore Anne Earp (12th in 20:25), sophomore Sarah Feter, 14th in 20:50, and sophomore sophomore Riley Slootsky, 18th in 21:04.
Hausman, a junior at Kent Place, was the fastest NJ girl on the day, placing third in 19:26.
