Boys Meet Recap: Ridge captured its first title as Luke Roberts and Jackson Barna led the charge for the Red Devils, who defeated defending champion Elizabeth, 104-87.

Roberts, as senior, showed why he's one of the state's best all-round athletes by winning three events and anchoring the runner-up 4x400 relay. Roberts won the 400 hurdles in 55.04, the 400 in 48.91, the 800 in 1:54.60. Barna, a junior, did his part as expected in the distance races, shattering the All-Time Sectional record in the 3,200 with a 9:11.10, and winning the 1,600 in 4:14.27.

Elizabeth was led by junior sprint star Greg McQueen, who won the 100 in 11.03 and the 200 in 22.09, and was sixth in the 400. Kaelen Mitchell of Piscataway soared a NJ#2 23-11.75 to win the long jump, just .25 off the sectional group 4 record of 24-0 set in 1986 by Sherman Gramby of Elizabeth.

Girls Meet Recap: Ridge broke out the brooms and made it a team sweep as the girls rolled to a 114.50-85.50 victory over runner-up Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Junior Carly Cambria was a double winner for Ridge, grabbing gold in the discus (116-11) and javelin (108-3), and Maura Medenilla won the HJ (5-0) and Ridge captured the 4x800.

In other highlights, Westfield senior Katie Hamilton won the 800 in 2:09.80, the fastest time of all the sectionals this weekend, and the 1600 in 5:06.16. Plainfield junior Celine-Jada Brown equaled the Group 4 sectional record in the long jump with her winning leap of 19-1.50, matching the record set in 1992 by Plainfield's Demeika Tweedy. Brown, the state leader in the LJ with a 19-5, also won the 400 hurdles.
