It sure feels good to type that again!

The NJ XC express is back on the road, and I couldn't more jacked up to be at a meet again. It felt like X-Mas morning when I got up today!!!!! I know you all felt the same way!!!

It just felt so wrong not being at an XC meet on Saturday's in September! So everything feels so right to be a meet again, and I know all you runners and coaches feel the same way!!!!

NJ MileSplit is live here at the finish line at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck for a one of the biggest meets of the season!!!!!!

Many of the top teams in the state are here!!!!!! 

Thanks to Colts Neck coach Jim Schlentz for putting this meet together. It's the shot of adrenalin our great sport has desperately needed!!!

The meet will get started with the freshman girls race at 9:15 .

9:10 a.m. I didn't think it was possible for this day to get any better or mean any more to me, but it just happened. Bill Bruno, a good friend and the NJSIAA XC and Track and Field Tournament Director, just showed up. To say that Bill has been through a lot in the past year is a huge understatement. Let's just say it was very emotional to see him back at his first meet since the M of C last November. Lots of coaches came over to greet Bill and tell him how great it was to see him! A great moment here at Bucks Mill!

Bill has done a lot of great things for high school sports for many decades, and no one loves the sport or cares more about the student athletes than Bill!!  Bill has been inducted into several Hall of Fames, but more significantly, he's a Hall of Fame person!!! Welcome back, Bill!!!!!!!!     

9:15 -a.m.  There goes the first gun of the day, sending the freshman girls out on the course.

9:27 - Here comes Anne Earp of Haddonfield. She has a huge lead and comes across first in the 2 mile race in 12:07.!! A future star has arrived. Earp is the real deal. Loads of potential, and she has the passion and drive to add to Haddonfoeld's rich legacy of greatness.    

It's a Haddonfield parade as the Dawgs go 1-2-3-5-13 to win big!!!!! Haddonfield wins, 18-37, over Summit.

9:40 a.m. Boys freshman race is off.

9:50 a.m. It's all Jack Falkowski here in the boys freshman race as the CBA runner comes across the line first in 10:34. Westfied wins the team title, 42-67 over CBA

10 a.m. Girls varsity race is off.   This race is stacked with NJ#3 Middletown South, NJ#6 Colts Neck, NJ#7 Westfield, NJ#8 Haddonfield, NJ#11 Ridge, NJ#13 Cherry Hill East, NJ#14 Summit, and NJ#6 RBC.

The race up front should be fast with Lilly Shapiro of Colts Neck, the Monmouth County, Shore Conf. and CJ Group 3 champ, leading the charge.   

10:18 a.m. Yowzaaa!!!! Shapiro wins in 18:07!!!! Looks like that's No. 2 in course history!!!!

It was a fast race as expected with Sarah Naticchia of Haddonfield is 2nd in 18:18, No. 4 in course history, and Katie Hamilton of Westfield gets third in 18:26., No. 7 in course history. 

WOW!!! Haddonfield wins on a tiebreaker over Middletown South after both teams finished with 54 points. Westfield is 3rd with 77 and Colts Neck 4th with 83.

Haddonfield goes 2-4-7-20-21 for 54. Middletown South goes 8-9-10-11-16 for 54. Haddonfield's #6 runner, Jesse Goode, placed 13 spots ahead of the No. 6 for Middletown South to give the Dawgs the dramatic win.  

Payton Weiner's fantastic finish was one of the big kets to Haddonfield's victory as she blasted past several runners over the final quarter mile to finish 7th in 18:57. 

10:30 a.m. Boys Varsity race is off.

WHAT A FINISH!!!! Matt Bogdan of Colts Neck wins by a step in 15:24, that's tied for No. 4 in course history. Jackson Barna of Ridge is 2nd in 15:25, No. 6 in  course history. 

NJ #1 CBA WINS TEAM TITLE, 68-85 OVER NJ#3 RIDGE.  CBA averaged 16:15.6, which is believed to be a course record. CBA went 3-10-13-20-22

13-Ben Santos 16:20

20-Lucas Ward-16:37

22-Chase Cauvin-16:39

11:00 a.m. Girls JV is on the course.

Westfield senior Louise Sur gets the win in around 21:09 to lead the Blue Devils to a  

11:30 Boys JV is off.

Matt Mastroly of CBA wins in 17:20, a huge PR for the sophomore. Summit edges Union County rival Westfield, 30-35, for the team title.

11:45 a.m. Haddonfield closes out an amazing day here at Bucks Mill Park by winning the Team Challenge with 134 points, 12 points ahead of Westfield. The team champ was determined by combining the points from the schools that had both a boys and girls varsity team that scored.  

11:56 a.m. Shoutout to Beth Shapiro!!!!! She puts the icing on the cake on a great day with a special delivery for Robert Kellert and I - subs from Jersey's Mike's!!!! How clutch is that? There is nothing the press loves more than a little lunch to go while we go work in our cars! Get ur Colts Neck lunch special on!!! Thanks, Beth!!! 

12:10 p.m. It sure was great to be back at a meet and seeing all the runners and coaches doing what they love most!!! I sure did miss this!!!!! Congrats to everyone who competed. You guys make the sport of XC the best in the world!!!
