The Shore Conference Championships visited their traditional course at Ocean County Park on Thursday, October 19th.
There were repeat winners for both team titles, Christian Brothers Academy winning their 16th straight and Freehold Township girls now with back to back titles. Emma Zawatski repeated and Stephen Kyvelos became Manalapan's first Shore winner in 15 years.

With a time of 17:30 and seven second lead on the field Emma Zawatski of Freehold Township repeated as the Shore Conference Champion, a week removed from bringing home the Monmouth County title. That's the quickest time at Ocean County Park this season.
Zawatski's win helped spark a 53 to 81 points victory for Freehold Township over Middletown South and the 22 team field. This defends their 2022 team title which was the first in school history.
With a scoring line of 1+9+12+13+18 (20+26) they averaged 18:43, split 1:48 through their top five, and their displacers were in on the action finishing before Middletown South's scoring five had finished out extending the team's lead.

With Zawatski bringing in the one card out front, junior Leah Rutledge was 10th at 18:51, senior Ava Biemuller 13th 18:57, senior Heather Feinstein 14th 19:05, and junior Sophia Briggs 19th 19:19. Their displacers were freshman Natalie Briggs in 21st 19:19, and sophomore Caroline Cox 27th at 19:42.
Just last week they also repeated as Monmouth County champions. This is the most successful stretch of team performances in Freehold Township's cross country history and there is still plenty to be made this season.

Overall three girls went under 18 minutes, Zawatski 17:30, senior Rosemary Shay of Middletown South a strong second at 17:37, and third was sophomore Ivy Slavinski of Pt. Pleasant Boro running 17:57.
Shay's time is the second fastest at Ocean County Park in 2023 and Slavinski's is fourth fastest.
This was also a great meet by Elizabeth Scarpa of Colts Neck HS running fourth with a course PR of 18:24, their previous best at OCP was a 19:27 during the 2021 Shore Conference Championship!
Manalapan junior Sadie Honig placed fifth with an 18:43, dropping their course best from a 19:34 last season.
The top freshmen of the meet was Kaitlyn Hathaway of Rumson-Fair Haven who earned 12th overall clocked at 18:54.
On the boys side Stephen Kyvelos of Manalapan brought home his school's first Shore Conference title since New Jersey great Robby Andrews did so in 2008. The Manalapan senior clocked a 15:27 after out kicking CBA's Conor Clifford, second at 15:29, to the line.
Kyvelos had covered most of the 5K race without holding the lead and made the move late to secure victory. Kyvelos now owns the second fastest time recorded at Ocean County Park this season.
This is just his second recorded race of the fall, he also won the XC Fall Classic on October 7th running 16:27 at Thompson Park, the second fastest time of the season on that course as well.
While Kyvelos started off Manalapan on the right foot, and teammate Clay Stevens also cracked the top ten running sixth at 15:44, they were eventually overcome on the scorecard by Christian Brothers Academy's attack 49 to 107.

The aforementioned CBA senior Conor Clifford led the way for the Colts running second at 15:29 and his teammates closed their top five with a 46 second split and 15:53 average.
Sophomore Sean Galvin ran fifth at 15:43, sophomore Luke Hnatt 12th 16:02, junior Thomas Field 13th 16:02, and senior William De Marco 21st 16:15.
CBA displacers Ryan Collins and Ryan Schmitt both finished within the middle of Manalapan's pack extending their lead on the scoresheet.
This is the 16th straight Shore Conference title for CBA!
Running well individually was Michael Card of Howell HS, the junior won the Monmouth County title last week at Holmdel Park and followed that up with a third place finish at Shore Conference timed at 15:38.
Santino Anthony D'Amelio of Southern Regional, who was second a week ago at Ocean County Champs, ran 15:40 for fourth overall.
Top of the Class
The leading boys and girls for each grade level in the 5K championship races.
- Boys Freshmen - Maddox Paulin of Shore Regional ran 47th at 16:56 in the Championship race.
- Boys Sophomore - Sean Galvin of CBA clocked 15:43 to lead all sophomores in fifth.
- Boys Junior - Michael Card of Howell HS was the top junior finisher in third at 15:38.
- Boys Senior - Stephen Kyvelos of Manalapan is this year's Shore Conference Champion at 15:27.
- Girls Freshmen - Kaitlyn Hathaway of Rumson-Fair Haven was the top frosh in 12th timed at 18:54.
- Girls Sophomore - Ivy Slavinski of Pt. Pleasant Boro ran third overall leading all sophomores at 17:57.
- Girls Junior - Elizabeth Scarpa of Colts Neck led all junior girls running fourth at 18:24
- Girls Senior - Emma Zawatski of Freehold Township is your Shore Conference Champion running 17:30.
