RECAP: New Jersey Boys at Manhattan College XC Invitational

With the 50th running of the Manhattan College XC Invitational done and over we're running through the highlights from each race New Jersey saw athletes toe the line.

Some pretty big moments here including CBA's historic level 12:44.2 average and Eastern States title, Haddonfield Memorial earning a meaningful win coming off the passing of longtime head coach Nick Baker, Ocean City boys taking Varsity A by storm, Bridgewater-Raritan and Lukas Disko making noise in Varsity D.


New Jersey Boys Manhattan Invite Highlights


Eastern States Championships

Joe Barrett of CBA and Peyton Shute of Gateway / Woodbury ran 1-2 for New Jersey in the highly competitive Eastern States Championship race.

With his time of 12:13.6 Barrett now ranks seventh all-time for New Jersey on the history rich 4K layout at Van Cortlandt Park. Shute moves up to 12th all-time thanks to his 12:18.1. 

Brenden McMahon of Ridge HS also finished top ten running 12:34.3 for eighth in this deep race.

The CBA team average of 12:44.2 is second all-time on the course only behind the record average of 12:32.76 by Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) back in 2014. 

Along with Barrett out front CBA's 51 point lineup included Alex Kemp, 12th in 12:45.7, Conor Clifford, 14th in 12:50.6, Alex Mastroly, 17th in 12:54.8, and Wyatt Falkowski, 19th in 12:56.4. Displacers Jack Falkowski, 31st 13:04.2, and Brady Barber, 13:10.5, also helped push the points gap on second place La Salle (PA) with 128pts.. 

Some other New Jersey team highlights included Ridge HS which ran to 10th with 272 points and a 13:25.8 average as well St. Peter's Prep who were 14th with 326 points and averaging 13:36.1.

Ridge's lineup included Brenden McMahon 8th 12:34.3, Dev Patel 42nd 13:15.7, Matthew Fukushima 62nd 13:29.3, Dmitry Cole 71st 13:35.5. Displacers were Justin Breivogel 118th 14:14.1, Edward Condolon 142nd 14:32.8.

St. Peter's lineup included Tommy O'Brien 25th 12:58.6, Aidan Prucher 43rd 13:17.3, Liam Rocks 74th 13:37.4, Ivan Rocks 81st 13:43.1, Colin Rutledge 133rd 14:24.1. Displacers were Abraham Went 166th 15:07.9 and Alex Giattino 170th 15:12.7


Varsity A 

The Ocean City boys won Varsity A with 63 points, second place was St. Francis Prep at 142!

Ocean City's lineup included Matt Hoffman 6th 13:27.1, Ethan Buck 7th 13:27.9, Zach Hutchinson 20th 13:57.6, Erik Preisner 21st 13:58.5, and Kal Heyman 23rd 14:03.4. Their lone displacer Robert Cesari was 77 at 15:07.8.

Varsity B

Finishing 8th in this race with 251 pts and a 14:18 team average, West Windsor Plainsboro North's squad included Luke Ferrer 28th 13:58.4, Chetan Casalena 47th 14:15.2, Jordan Andrade 56th 14:22.3, Andrew Sebastian 62nd 14:26.1, Rohan Joglekar 67th 14:29.9, and displacer Madhav Hadagali 77th 14:37.1


Varsity C

This Haddonfield squad was racing with heavy hearts after the passing of longtime Haddonfield Head Coach Nick Baker but they made sure to honor him with a big win in the Varsity C race during Saturday's Manhattan Invite. What an amazing showing of resilience by this squad.

Led by junior Bennett Wright in fourth with a time of 13:06.8 the winning lineup included Ryan Gibson 7th 13:16.1, Liam Dougherty 9th 13:17.9, Benjamin Andrus 11th 13:19.9, Luke Andresen 14th 13:22.0, and displacer Reid Gervasi 36th 13:49.2.

Rumson-Fair Haven finished 11th scoring 336 points with an average of 14:27.4. They were led by seniors Quinn Padaovano in 30th clocking 13:44.1 and Luke McCormick 34th with 13:47.6. 


Varsity D

The Bridgewater-Raritan boys earned the win in a hard fought Varsity D race scoring 88 points ahead of second place Xavier (NY) with 112.

Bridgewater-Raritan averaged 13:53.3 with a squad made up of the race winner Lukas Disko at 13:04.9, Moksh Patwari 11th 13:40.7, Liam Vasquez 16th 13:59.0, Nikola D'Amico 23rd 14:08.9, and Michael Braswell 38th 14:33.0.

Disko had the 10th fastest time out of New Jersey athletes at the meet.

Paul VI ran to fourth scoring 167 points averaging 14:22.3. They were led by senior Will Mrozinski finishing second with a time of 13:19.1. Their second scorer Christian Napoli, a junior, also under 14 minutes with a 13:58.8 in 15th. Sean Alemi, Nicholas Salamone, and Collin Conway also in their scoring five.

BelovED Community Charter School was 22nd with an average of 17:16.4 led by Edward Vasquez in 87th running 15:27.7.

Freshmen Race Highlights

The top 2400m freshmen time of the day was recorded by Gavin Schmitt of Christian Brothers Academy who won the Freshmen B race with a time of 7:59.0. That was the only time under eight minutes by New Jersey and the second fastest of the meet only behind Ryan Sykes of Horace Greeley (NY) who won the Freshmen C race with a 7:53.8.

Team wise the Paul VI freshmen boys put together the top NJ performance with an average of 8:25.4 and splitting just 42 seconds en route to winning the Freshmen B division 23 to 58 over CBA. 

Chris Monaghan led the way with an 8:02.8 for second, Caden Briggs third at 8:20.4, Max Long fourth 8:29.10, Chase Cooley sixth 8:30.7, and Holden Cranston sixth 8:44.
