Marco Langon of Bridgewater Won't Race At The State Meets

Marco Langon, the distance running star from Bridgewater-Raritan, will not be racing at any of the state meets, it was confirmed on Saturday morning.

The Villanova-bound Langon, who ran a NJ No. 6 all-time 4:05.91 to place second in the mile at the John Hay Distance Festival in West Chester, Pa. last night, was flirting with the idea of running the 1,600m at today's North Jersey, Section 2 Group 4 meet at Ridge, which starts at 1 p.m., but he's decided not to. That means Langon can't race at the State Group Championships or the Meet of Champions because you must run at the sectionals to advance.

Instead, Langon will focus his attention on making a run at becoming the second sub 4 high school miler from NJ at the New Balance National Championships on June 19 at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Marty Liquori of Essex Catholic is the only high school runner in NJ history who has broken the 4-minute barrier in the mile. Liquori ran the state record of 3:59.8 in 1967.
