This meet is an intriguing one because not only are we watching for which athletes will win a championship medal, but it will also be a race to see how many golds a single athlete can bring home. Just look at the returning champs above for an example, Abigail Antognoli of St. Rose won the 400m and 3200m individually last spring along with a second place 800m run.
The versatile Kate McAndrew of Morris Catholic is the returning 1600m and 100H champion and was part of the winning 4x800m as well. She leads the 400m, 800m, and 400H this season for NPB and seventh in the state for the 800m.
Another multi-event athlete comes out of Trenton Catholic Academy, junior Wisdom Maddox leads the group statistically in the 100H, 14.54, long jump, 17-1, and triple jump 37-0.5.
Danielle Mills of Morris Catholic has a great shot at double gold with the javelin and shot put, she won three golds last week at Sectionals. There is going to be a nice battle in the discus between the just mentioned Mills and Holy Spirit teammates Ariana Mack and Julia Bannan. Bannan also strong in the shot put with her new PR of 33-5 to win South B last week. Mack is the defending champ in the discus from last spring.
More athletes to keep an eye on: Hannah Reynolds of Trinity Hall leads the 100m with a 12.89 (NWI) on the season. She'll take on Group 200m leader Selena Munroe of Benedictine Academy in the half lap sprint. Villa Walsh Academy has a strong up and coming star in the distance events with Sarah Hanifin, she leads the 3200m with a 10:57.40 and will be up with the leaders in the 1600m as well.
St. Dominic Academy relays lead the NPB 4x800m, 10:08.23, and 4x400m, 4:06.18, which could come into play for with the team title race. Hudson Catholic has a strong statistical lead entering the meet in the 4x100m with their 50.36 from HCTCA Relays in April.
Morris Catholic's multi-event athletes don't end with the throws and track, Destiny DeBlock could very well leave with multiple wins. She leads the high jump at 5-04, ranks second in the triple jump at 35-09.5, and second in the 400m hurdles. The pole vault looks to be a show down between Grace Kellogg of Eastern Christian and Grace Guingon of Hawthorne Christian Academy, both have cleared 9-06 this spring.
On the team front: Morris Catholic is looking to make it three straight victories in the Non-Public B. St. Dominic Academy, Trinity Hall, and more will be battling toward the top.
