Girls Group Championship Preview

Group 3

2019 Group 3 Leaders - Sectional Merge Leaders

2018 Results - Defending Champs: 3200m - Alexa Westley, LJ - Tionna Tobias, SP - Stacey Saint-Paul. Defending Relay Champs: 4x100m - Winslow Twp, 4x400m - Winslow Twp, 4x800m - Colts Neck. Team Champions: Winslow Twp.

Watch out for Dennisha Page of Woodrow Wilson! The sprint star senior has been on a roll this season and leads Group 3 into the championship off three wins at Sectionals in the 100m, 11.68, 200m, 24.18, and 400m, 54.41, and that doesn't include her third place finish in the long jump with another PR of 17-07.25.

Can't miss racing action could take place in the 1600m and 3200m with a Julia Trethaway and Alexa Westley rematch on schedule from their awesome duals at Sectionals. Trethaway leads both events with a 4:48.82 and 10:19.37.  The meet record in the 3200m held by Josette Norris at 10:25.57 could be going down.

In the hurdles Grace O'Shea of Ramapo, who hasn't lost to a New Jersey athlete in the 100H this spring, has a best of 13.84 and ranks NJ#3 in the 400H at 1:01.34.

High jump state leader Tierra Hooker of Timber Creek enters the meet with a 2.75 inch height difference over the rest of the field in terms of heights cleared at 5-08.75. She'll find competition from Tionna Tobias in that event as well as the long jump where they both have a mark of 18-09.5 this season.

More Athletes to Watch: The Winslow girls will be fighting for another team title and the sprint relays will place a big role in that, ranked first in Group 3 with their 48.07 4x100m and 3:51.70 4x400m they could bring home 20 points right there. Middletown South looks strong in the 4x800m.

Mulica Rodic of Wayne Valley leads the triple jump out of the Group 3 Sectionals at 36-08.75. Marisa Digia of Old Tappan brings her 12-02 pole vault clearance. Angelina Tapia looks strong in the discus at 133-08. Casey Bogues of Middletown North is the top ranked Group 3 javelin thrower based off the season at 133-04.

Alicia Campbell of Snyder will be showing her multi-event strengths having advanced in the javelin, discus, triple jump, and long jump with solid marks.

Quick Look at Teams: This could be seven straight for the defending champions Winslow Twp, if they take the 2019 title it will be the school's eighth overall on the girls side including this Group 3 streak and one Group 4 title from 2004. We compete for a reason though and there are some highly talented teams to apply some pressure here namely the Ramapo girls and Timber Creek.
