Stanley Opens Season With NJ#1 1600m At Pietrewicz Invite

Jack Stanley of Mendham wasted no time running a fast time.

The University of Princeton-bound Stanley, who won the the Foot Locker Northeast XC title and earned All-American at the Foot Locker and Nike XC Nationals, opened his season by cranking out a NJ#1 4:21.90 to win the boys 1,600-meter run at the Len Pietrewicz Invitational on Sunday at the 168th Street Armory in New York.

Stanley led a 1-2 finish for Mendham and four runners went under 4:30. Jack Jennings of Mendham was second in a NJ#6 4:26.95. Jennings is the state leader in the 3,200m with a 9:29.98.

Julia Trethaway and Jacob Pantoya also dropped NJ#1 times.

Trethaway, a junior at West Morris, took over the state lead by winning the girls 1,600m in 5:02.33.

Pantoya, a junior at Summit, hammered out a NJ#1 and school record 2:33.87 to capture the boys 1,000m, and led off the winning 4x400 (school record 3:31.72) with a 52.36 split. Pantoya's 2:33.87 broke The Summit 1K record of 2:36.74 set in 2015 by Leland Jones, a multiple state champ in XC and track.

In other boys highlights, Ryan McCloskey of Hunterdon Central won the 55m dash in a NJ#6 6.55. Tre'Quan Lomax of Elizabeth ran a NJ#6 1:24.54 to capture the 600, Hunterdon Central finished first in the 4x200 ina  NJ#6 1:32.88, David Huizenga of West Morris moved into the No. 8 spot in the state in the shot put with a 51-0 1/2, and Kyle Estivene of Scotch Plains won the 55m HH in 7.83. Estivene is NJ#12 with the 7.81 he ran earlier this season.

There were several great performances on the girls side.

Megan O'Malley of Randolph cleared a NJ#3 5-6 to win the high jump, Crystal Robinson of West Morris ran aNJ#5 41.53 to win the 300, Morgan Lyons of Ridge ran a NJ#7 1:38.40 to capture the 600, and Kayla Morgan of Morristown won the shot put with a 40-3. Morgan threw a NJ#2 41-0 1/2 at the Gardiner Holiday Relays at Ocean Breeze on Dec. 17.
