Every season there are rising stars that make an immediate impact across the state. To say that Jevon Ledgister of St. Peter's Prep is one of those special athletes that has a made a name for himself is a massive understatement.

Ledgister, who came into high school loaded with star potential, hasn't wasted any time showing everyone that he's the real deal.

For the second time already this season, the St. Peter's Prep freshman left a lot of smoke on the track by taking down a state freshmen record!!

That's right, a week after Ledgister broke the NJ freshmen record in the 200-meter dash, he blasted a 6.47 on Saturday to add the NJ state freshmen record in the 55m dash to his collection when he won that race at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the New York Armory.

Ledgister, whose older brother Fitzroy was a Meet of Champions winner and All-American at St. Peter's Prep (Class of  2022), took down the state freshman record of 6.49, which was run by the late great Mario Heslop of Franklin when he finished fourth at the 2016 Meet of Champions.

The 6.47 by Ledgister, who had run 6.54 in his high school debut,is the fastest time in the country for a freshman this season and No. 21 in U.S. history for a freshman.

In his high school debut on Dec. 21 at the JAMBAR Coaches Invit. at the NY Armory, Ledgister ran a state freshmen record 22.41 to win the 200, which broke the NJ freshmen record of 22.58 that Amir Woodward of Bergen Catholic ran five days earlier at the South Jersey Track Coaches Association Meet on Dec. 16 at Ocean Breeze.

It sure will be fun to watch Ledgister and Woodward battle out of the blocks this season as they seek to reset that freshmen record multiple times in the 200.
