The Throws

Despite the weather conditions that led to a few meets cancelling throwing events it was a pretty solid week in the throws.

GIRLS - Howell's star javelin thrower Rachel Kern began her spring season with a monster PR and school record of 144-9 NJ#1 US#6 on her home turf during the Rebel Relays. This is the first time Kearn has broken 140, her previous best a 139-10 at NJSIAA Groups last spring, and she is already within two feet of last year's state leading mark of 146-7 by Parsippany grad Kathryn Campbell

Indoor shot put national record holder Alyssa Wilson of Donovan Catholic opened her spring season at Rebel Relays as well. With her 52-7.25 on Saturday she's the US#1 national leader far this young season. Danielle Notarfrancesco of Jackson Liberty is NJ#2 in both the shot put, 41-11, and discus, 106-1, with marks from this meet.

The discus state leader came from the Buena Relays, Vineland's Najeaya Singleton hit a 131-8 NJ#1 in her opening performance. She is also NJ#3 in the shot put with a meet leading throw of 40-3.25.

BOYS[Update 4/6 12:00pm] Individual field results from the Season Opener came late and showed that Giovanni Gutierrez of Saddle Brook actually owns the state lead in BOTH the shot put and the discus throwing 54-7 and 159-2.

Rebel Relays was a great event for the boys shot put, Donald Small of Matawan Regional produced the NJ#2 throw of 54-6.75 and Dan Mead of CBA wasn't too far behind NJ#4 at 52-3.5.

In the discus Ryan Roger of Toms River North threw a career best of 158-4 NJ#2 at the Metuchen Relays. For the javelin Kobe Roberts of Mainland Regional went for a huge PR of 184-4 NJ#1 at the Buena Relays, his previous best was 172-5 at Groups last spring.

Now for a shout out to the most important throwers event out there, the 4x100 meter throws relay. Cumberland boys with their 52.77 and the Winslow Twp girls going under a minute at 58.60 at Buena Relays.
