Sprints and Hurdles

There was a lot going on here so we're going to try and keep this to the major highlights.

BOYS - Haig Rickerby of McNair Academic brought the success he had this past indoor right with him to spring and won the Metuchen Relays 400 meter with a NJ#1 time of 49.34. At that same meet we also saw state leading performances for the 4x400 meter relay by the Piscataway boys with a 3:28.57 and the 110 meter hurdles with a 15.34 by Dakari Falconer of St. Peter's Prep.

The 4x100 meter state leading time of 43.28 was set by Blair Academy during the NJISAA Prep Relay Championships. The Trenton Central boys had an impressive early season run in the 800 meter SMR with a 1:35.65. Egg Harbor Twp's sprint squad is ahead of schedule already running faster than last year in the 4x200 meter with a NJ#1 time of 1:31.21.

For the shuttle hurdles West Essex opened their season off right with a 1:02.51 state leading time at the first annual Mountie Relays. They had a great season indoors with the 4x55 meter shuttle. In the 400 meter hurdles Jamil Adams of Winslow Twp found himself leading the state with a time of 57.49, he is the seventh fastest returner from last spring.

GIRLS - We'll start with some individual events. Kishona McCray of Central HS threw down an early season NJ#1 time of 1:05.26 for the 400 meter hurdles in NY at the Kings Relays over the weekend. Junior Kaela Edwards of Bloomfield is the state leader in the 100 meter hurdles with her 15.79 career best.

The shuttle hurdles are led by North Hunterdon, as seen in the video above, thanks to their 1:06.28 win all alone at Raider Relays. Winslow owns the state lead in the 4x200 meter with a 1:43.43 and the 4x100 meter at 49.70 from wins at Buena Relays. The Ridge girls also had a big day running 4:12.52 in the 4x400 meter and 4:21.59 in the SMR at Raider, both of those time NJ#1 performances.

In the SMR variations, Toms River South posted a 1:55.30 for the 800m SMR and Rumson-Fair Haven leads the state in the 1K SMR with a time of 2:26.17.
