Wilson and Mead Lead Midway Through Rebel Series | Video

Two meets in an the Rebel Shot Put Series already has one boy and girl over 50 feet. The series consists of four qualifying meets throughout the season and a final championship on February 7th which accepts the top 15 boys and girls.  

The girls are led by Alyssa Wilson of Donovan Catholic, the state record holder and US#2 all-time in the shot put. She threw 54-5 at the second meet on December 29th and leads the series by over 16 feet. She won last year's Rebel Shot Put Series Championship with a previous Rebel Series best of 53-4. 

This season Wilson is ranked US#1 with her state record launch 55-9.5 at the Bishop Loughlin Games to open the season on December 17th, you can watch that video at the foot of the article. She is the only girl over 50 feet in the country so far this season. 

There are currently four other girls over 36 feet two meets into this series. Justine Hosszu of Southern Regional who led the first meet with a 38-02.75, Antoinette Gyles of Marlboro 37-7.5, Christianah Akinsanmi of Howell 36-10, and Miranda Irizarry of South Brunswick 36-7. The boys' series leader is Dan Mead of Christian Brothers Academy who hit his second best career throw of 51-9 at meet #1 on December 16th. The following week he would improve his PR to 52-6 at the STCA Season Opener #2 meet and currently ranks NJ#8 this season.

There are currently four other boys over 45 feet two meets in, Ryan Roger of Toms River North at 49-3.5, Sayvon Jarrett of South Brunswick 45-11.5, Nick Reich of CBA 45-7, and Austin Gere of Freehold Boro 45-1. See full boys Rebel Shot Put Series rankings here.
