I started a nomination process for moments of the season as well and here is the list of entered moments and performances sent in by the readers! Vote for your favorite moments! Voting closes Friday at midnight for this.
A. -"When Olivia Baker of Columbia ran a 2:09.9 split in the 4x800 at Penn Relays to bring her team back from behind to win the event in 8:56.37!" "The team was the first NJ team in 30 years to win that event!"
B. -Pleasantville 4x800 at Penn Relays
C. -When CBA's 4xmile team of Tom Rooney, Aaron LIberatore, Jack Boyle and Mike McClemens ran a 17:18 at the East Coast Relays
D. -During the Monmouth County Championships when Xavier Chestnut (?) of RBR split a 49 to come from 20m back to beat CBA and Matawan at the line. Maybe not best, but definitely sickest to watch.
- The Monmouth County Championships 4x400m- both Matawan and RBR beat their school records and finishing within 6 hundreths of a second of each other. First place-RBR 3:21.96; Matawan was 2nd in 3:22.02; CBA was third in 3:22.51 with Marlboro in 4th at 3:23.81. One of the closest races in a long time, and definitely one of the most exciting things in the world!
E. -When Ben Malone outkicked Cheserek at the Loucks Games
F. -Cliftons 4x800 team beating the Randolph Relays 4x800 record and their school record and then coming back and then three of those runners coming back and beating their school's 4x400 record
G. -Additionally the 1600 at Monmouth counties with 7 guys within 3 strides of each other, all under 4:20. Insane performance
H. -Dominique Irons setting state record at Groups in the Triple Jump at 50-06.75 then running over to the 100m dash to take gold there as well.
- Dominique Irons 50'6.75". FIFTY FEET!!! Nuff said...
I. -4 golds by Olivia Baker at Group Champs won the Group 4 Girls 800m (2:13.33), 400m (54.16), 100m (11.64), and 200m 24.15
J. -Torie Robinson of Winslow at Group 3 winning the 100m (11.91), 100hh (14.40), 200m (25.08), and 400h (60.91)
K. -Jessica Woodard of Cherokee hits a 168-00 mark to win the Discus a Meet Record from 1977! US#6. She also won the Shot put with a 44-03.75 NJ#4 at groups
L. -The girls Group 4 100H final. Three girls under 14, all three underclassmen
M. -David Njoku 7' in the HJ. No matter how many times I see that height I still watch in awe
N. -Hands down...Olivia Baker MOC sprint triple crown and 53 anchor leg!!! Masterful performance
O. -Keturah Orji state record in the Triple Jump
P. -Union catholic Boys 4x400 small school with a BIG number
Q. -Jess Woodard's performance at the Meet of Champions. She became the first three-time winner of the girl's discus. She broke the meet record and won by 31' 4". She then went over to the shot put. She threw a lifetime PR that broke the South Jersey Record and moved her to #6 in state history. It was the 4th farthest throw in meet history. She won by 2' 4.5". Quiet a double.
R. -Keturah Orji dropped a 43'9.25" jump at nationals.
S. -Penns Grove Girls 4x400 team @ the MOC - What group 1 school ever ran a 3:48+ at any meet, yet in all of South Jersey and all but one NORTH school group 1 to 4 has ran this type of time. Penns Grove is one of the smallest schools in the state, but that number 3:48 is major.
T. Josette Norris running 4:41 in the 1600m at MOC!
U. Sarah Disanza winning the 3200m at Meet of Champs in 10:15 officially improving her best time by 40 seconds!
V. The Kick fest by Kyle Levermore and Jack Boyle at MOCS! Levermore outlasting him to an 8:55 in the 3200m!
W. Braheme Days Jr becoming a National Champion in the Shot Put!
