As usual the Battle at Ocean County Park brought some fiery times and quality early season competition. This merge combines all the official 5K results, which were broken up by grade, and scores them as one meet. Race videos, interviews, and photos will be releasing on the meet page this weekend.

The boys meet was led by Damien Dilcher of Brick Twp who posted a 15:28 as he came across the finish in style. He won the junior race last season with a time of 15:53 and moved up from 13th all-time to third all-time for this meet's eight year history.  Second place Fahd Nasser of McNair Academic also cracked the top ten all-time with his 15:36.

The third fastest boys performance tied into the team merge scores, Nick Ackerman of Freehold Twp hit a 15:38 in the senior race. His low scoring place led Freehold Twp to the top of the merge with 134 points and a 16:36 average. The Union Catholic boys should also be noted as they gave Freehold Twp a run in the merge with 139 points, senior Andre Rodriquez having a day and placing fifth with a time of 16:03.

The junior race was the place to be for the girls competition, bringing home the top three times of the day. Abby Loveys continued her great start to 2017 by leading the meet with her 18:11 finish, now third all-time for the Battle. The Randolph junior opened last weekend with an all-time level performance at Freedom Park. Monmouth Regional's Amanda Stone crossed the junior race line in second and also cracked the meet's top ten all-time at 18:31.

Loveys' one card wouldn't go to waste with Randolph leading the way in the merge scoring 83 points and averaging 19:36. Three Randolph girls finished top ten for the meet on Friday. Union Catholic once again impressed ranking second in the combined scoring only nine points behind the Group 4 Randolph team. UC was led by Jerika Lufrano who clocked in at 18:33, the third fastest time of the afternoon's races.

Not scored in this merge were the freshmen races which competed at the two mile distance. Erin Powers of Middletown North is a star in the making with her 12:19 for the win, 26 seconds ahead of the competition. Colts Neck's Matthew Bogdan earned the boys victory with a time of 10:20 after battling to the line with Southern Regional's Jackson Braddock 10:24.
