NJSIAA Group Championships - Day 2 May 30, 2009

So. Plainfield - The second day of competiton will start here at 10am, while, at Egg Harbor, the meet will continue where it was stopped yesterday due to severe weather conditions. NJRunners is on site at both venues to bring you coverage of the State Group Championships.                                 Highlights * Liam Tansey (1:52.06 MR) wins G3 800m. Lucas Clyne 2nd (1:52.54), for 18 Morris Hills points. * Hayden Duffy (Emerson) edges Keith Griffith (Florence) in G1 800m. * Ajee Wison of Neptune (2:09.66) comes from behind to take the G3 800m in a close one from Lanie Thompson (Voorhees). Wilsons mark is new NJ Frosh Record. * Marielle Hall (Haddonfield) picks up her 2nd win with a 2:09.89) in the G2 800m * Jim Rosa pulls away at 1800m and buries the field with a 9:02.38 MR in the G3 3200m. Egg Harbor Day 1 Postponed / Continues Saturday May 30, 2009

Egg Harbor Twp - State Group championships @ Egg Harbor Twp high school were postponed due to inclement weather Fiday night.  They  will resume Saturday morning at 10am.  Before the meet was cancelled a few events were completed.  The boys G4 400h was first onto the track, without the presence of Isaiah Gill (Plainfield) in the race, Tim Carey (Washington Twp) ran away with the victory in 52.10 and a new New Jersey #1 / US #2.  Washington Twp also saw good fortune in the boys 1600m.  Xavier Fraction (pictured) eased his way to victory running 4:16.x.  The race was without National Record holder, Robby Andrews who decided to only run the 800m on Saturday.  Directly after the group 4 1600m run were the 100m dash trials, where Clayton Parros (Seton Hall Prep) dominated the entire field (including Non-Pub B, and group 4) running 10.63.  It is not known whether Parros will now run the finals of the 100m, since they will now be contested on Saturday along with the 400m, 200m, and possibly the 4x400m, where Parros and company are among the states leaders in each. Other highlights fron Friday include: *Ugonna Ndu (Union) lowers her own US#1 400h time to 59.36 *Tylia Gillon (Jackson Memorial) running the fastest qualifier in the group 4 100m in 12.16. *Dominique Booker (Imm Conception) running the fastest qualifier in the Non-Pub B running 12.03, a new meet record. *Jill Smith (Southern Regional) cruised to victory in the 1600m for the 2nd consecutive year running 4:55.x Click on Headline to View  Winners Lists From Egg Harbor

On Friday and Saturday (5/29-5/30), hundreds of Track & Field Athletes will gather at Egg Harbor and South Plainfield to compete for the coveted titles of NJ State Group Champion. The Public School Groups 1,2 and 3 championships will take place at South Plainfield and the Public School Group 4 and Non-Public Groups “A” and “B” meet will be run at Egg Harbor Township. Plainfield News & Notes * 2008 Gr 3 and MOC 1600m Champ Brett Johnson of Ocean City will not defend his titles and has chosen to end his HS career due to ongoing ankle injuries. Johnson, who according to reports, was in great pain after his 4:18.51 victory at the SJ Sectional. Johnson originally incurred the injury during the latter part of the 2008 XC season and was hampered by it at the Foot Locker National Championships. Brett will not race again as a prep, and will run for the University of Virginia in the Fall.   Keep coming back as we update and keep you in the loop.
