Jevon Ledgister concluded the greatest season for a freshman sprinter in NJ history with a sizzling victory in the boys 200-meter dash in the Freshman Division at Sunday's New Balance National Championships at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Ledgister, who also won the 100 in the Freshman Division and broke that meet record, completed the 100/200 sweep by running a NJ freshmen record and wind-legal 21.19 to break his second meet record and to win the half-lapper!!!
He also threw down a blazing fast second leg on the 4x100 relay that placed fourth in 41.40 on Sunday!!!
The 21.19 by Ledgister broke the NJ freshmen record of 21.31 that Amir Woodward of Bergen Catholic ran in the first round of the 200 on Saturday, and it broke the meet record of 21.26 set by Avonte Earl of Houston, Texas in the first round on Saturday. It's also the third fastest time by a freshmen in the country this season.
Woodward was third in Sunday's final in 21.42 and Earl finished fourth in 21.51.
Ledgister, who ran a 21.37 in the first round, came into the meet with a PR of 21.75 that he ran to finish first at the East Coast Championships last week in Piscataway.
On Thursday, Ledgister ran a wind-legal 10.57 in the first round of the 100 to take down the meet record of 10.61 set in 2023 by Joshua Howell of the St. John's Striders. He came back later in the day to win the final in 10.60.
Ledgister's fastest wind-legal 100 time of the season came when he burned a 10.46, the No. 2 wind-legal time for a freshmen in NJ history, to win the State Non-Public A Championship. Only Jamar Ervin of Camden has run faster as a freshman. Ervin ran 10.35, the state wind-legal record at the time, to win the 100 at the 2000 Meet of Champions at South Brunswick.
At the Meet of Champions on June 4 at Pennsauken, Ledgister ran a wind-aided 10.41 (2.5 wind) when he joined Ervin as the only freshmen in state history to win the 100 at the M of C.
