Marquis Taylor and Taylor Aska burned fast sprint doubles to highlight the action when the New Jersey indoor track and field season kicked off on Monday at the Ridge Invitational at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
Taylor, a senior who helped lead Woodbury to the State Group 1 title last spring, won the boys' 55-meter dash in 6.46 and the 200m dash in 22.14.
On the girls' side, Union Catholic's Aska, who is headed to Duke, led 1-2-3 sweeps for the Vikings in the 200 and 400. Aska won the 200 in 24.12 and the 400 in 55.36, both indoor personal best times. Sydney Chadwick was second in both the 200 (24.53) and the 400 (56.02). Maya Wyche was third in the 200 in 25.51 and burned a 7.22 to place second in the 55 dash.
Union Catholic's Taylor Cox, the indoor and outdoor national champion in the high hurdles last year and who is headed to the University of Georgia, won the 55 hurdles in 7.76, just off her PR of 7.73.

Hillside had a pair of very fast winners in seniors Jay-Deen Batchelor and Yverson Alexandre.
Batchelor won the girls' 55m dash in a PR of 7.14 and Alexandre, the Union County 110 HH champ last spring, clocked a PR of 7.49 to win the boys' 55 hurdles.
Peter Donini, a senior a Delbarton, unloaded a 58-0.75 to win the boys shot put. Donini, fourth at the Meet of Champions last spring, owns a PR of 59-2.75.
The Ridge girls had three winners, seniors Jenna Inscore and Ryan Ireland, and freshman Daphne Georgiades.
Inscore, a senior, had a great all-round performance. She won the triple jump (33-6), was fifth in the hurdles and third in the pole vault. Ireland ran 1:43.61 to win the 600 and Georgiades leaped 16-8.75 to win the long jump.
Junior Kiara Fleming of Union Catholic cleared a personal best of 5-5 to win the girls' high jump.
