Sofia Day of Mainland, one of the top recruits in the country, announced her college plans on Monday morning.
The winner is Vanderbilt.
Day also visited Penn State, Wake Forest and South Carolina, has shown remarkable range from 800 through 5K and has compiled a sensational resume during her high school days.
On the track, she has captured four State Group Championships, three in the 800 (two indoors and one outdoors) and one in the 1,600 outdoors. Last spring, Day won the 800 and 1,600 at the State Group 3 Championships and dropped PR's of 5:01.05 in the mile and 4:59.37 in the 1,600 and ran 2:12.55 in the two-lapper. Last indoors, Day ran a PR of 2:12.05 to place fourth in the 800 at the Meet of Champions.
Day is also one of the state's best cross-country runners.
As a junior last fall, Day ran 18:34 to place seventh at the Meet of Champions, placed 11th at the RunningLane Championships in 18:05, and burned a 16:59 at the Cape Atlantic League Championships!!
