Franklin Girls, Ridge Boys Win Skyland Conference Titles

The Ridge boys, sparked by Brenden McMahon's distance double, and the Franklin girls, captured the team titles at Saturday's Skyland Conference Championships at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

McMahon, a junior, won the 1,600-meter run in 4:23.44 and the 3,200 in 9:30.46  to help lead Ridge to a 76-47 victory over runner-up Bridgewater-Raritan. It's the third title for Ridge.

Ridge also received victories from senior Lok Hariharan in the shot put (48-6.50) and senior Owen Mays in the 55 hurdles (7.85). Mays also ran in the third place 4x400.

Other scorers for Ridge were Edward Condolon in the 400 and 4x400, Joseph Dachnowicz in the 400, 55 hurdles and 4x400, Dev Patel in the 1,600, and 3200, Matthew Fukushima in the 800, Marcus Reilly in  the vault, Mitya Cole in the 3,200, and Jared Rascio in the 4x400.

In the girls competition, Franklin received huge contributions from seniors Qiora Rollins, Jessica Uzor, and Hannah Adhikari, who led the Warriors to a 76-68 victory over defending champion Hillsborough.

Rollins won the 55 dash in 7.32 and led a 2-3-4 finish for Franklin in the 400 with a runner-up finish in 59.70, and ran a leg in the victorious 4x400 relay. Uzor won the 55 hurdles in 8.49, and Adhikari won the 800 in 2:20.20 and placed second in the 1,600 in 5:10.14.   

Franklin also received points from Adriana Rollins, third in the hurdles (PR of 8.96 in trials), Bethany Adhikari (PR of 59.99 in the 400 and ran on the 4x400), Sinai Kelliehan (PR of 1:00.32 in the 400 and ran on the 4x400), and from Desiree Daly, fourth in the high jump.  

The only individual double winner for the girls was senior Julia Scrudato of Montgomery, Scrudato, the Meet of Champions winner in the 1,600 last spring, won the 1,600 in 5:02.61 and the 3,200 in 11:05.62.
