RECAP: New Jersey Girls at Manhattan College XC Invitational

With the 50th running of the Manhattan College XC Invitational done and over we're running through the highlights from each race New Jersey saw athletes toe the line.

Rosemary Shay of Middletown South registered the quickest New Jersey time of the meet with her 14:59.3 to win Varsity E. Ocean City's Maeve Smith continued an impressive fall season winning the Varsity F.

Both Shay and Smith were top 15 performers for the entire girls meet combined.

Middletown South was a team winner as well leading the Varsity E race with 45 points and a 16:13.9 average.

Eastern States Championships

New Jersey's leading finishers in this race were Emma Bradley of Academy of St. Elizabeth in 29th at 15:52.1, Maggie Minter of Oak Knoll School finishing 33rd at 15:57.1, Ally Sparno 35th at 16:02.6, and Michaela Schlemo of Egg Harbor Twp in 39th running 16:06.9.

All four were recorded as top ten New Jersey performances on the day, Bradley was fifth among the Garden State times, Minter seventh, Sparno ninth, and Schlemo 10th. 

Behind Minter's performance Oak Knoll School finishes 13th of 14 teams with a score of 284 averaging 17:25.3. This team also included Ally Sparno, 35th 16:02.6, Sally Marchesi 66th 17:00.1, Claire Kleedorfer 84th 18:04.4, Caitlin Canal 93rd 20:02.2, and displacer Lauren Soeder 94th 20:32.4.

Varsity A 

Junior Zui Chinchalkar of West Windsor-Plainsboro North ran to ninth in this race clocking 15:37.9, that was the fourth fastest performance on the day by New Jersey athletes.

Finishing 16th as a team Chinchalkar led teammates Hasini Sankar 84th 17:51.2, Diya Nagella 92nd 18:04.2, Fatima Arastu 101st 18:19.6, Isabelle Usuquen 103rd 18:20.7, and displacers Alysa Sizintsev 110th 18:39.3 and Mihika Shankar 130th 19:32.1.


Varsity B

The Paul VI girls were a close runner up in the Varsity B, behind winning Hunter College (NY) by just six points! 

Totaling 81 points with a 16:36.4 average the Paul VI attack was led by senior Shaelan McNally clocked at 15:36.7 for second.

That was the third fastest time by New Jersey athletes on the day and judging by the photo above this impressive performance was done despite a fall or some contact out on the course!

Sophomore teammate Giovanna Mantuano also having a great day running fifth at 15:57.3, the eighth fastest for NJ on Saturday. 

The rest of the scoring five included Macy Huber 12th 16:37.6, Grace Gutowski 31st 17:12.8, Kara Salamone 38th 17:37.3, and then displacers Madison Pedicelli 50th 17:58.1 and Lucy Crothers 62nd 18:13.9.

Rumson-Fair Haven was eighth as a team with 207 points and a 17:44.6 average. 

They were led by freshman Kaitlyn Hathaway 13th 16:40.7, Katie Murray 43rd 17:41.7, Hannah Nitka 53rd 18:03.2, Reese Reynolds Malone 55th 18:05.6, Ryan Malone 61st 18:11.7. Displacers were Isabel Ross 77th 18:46.0 and Quinn Cushing 83rd 19:14.5.


Varsity E

Middletown South senior Rosemary Shay had a massive win in Varsity E running 14:59.3, the top New Jersey time of the day, and 13th fastest of the entire meet combined! 

That first place run wasn't wasted in the points either, Middletown South scored 45 points for the win, finishing ahead of NY's Tappan Zee scored with 53. 

Behind Shay the rest of the top five included Abby Oglevee 10th 16:15.9, Caitlin Brown 12th 16:27.5, Emma Merces 13th 16:30.6, and Ava Romano 21st 16:56.0. Displacers were Morgan Michaelson 28th 17:17.9 and Emily Gallo 48th 17:53.5.


Varsity F

Maeve Smith continues to roll out fantastic performances winning the Varsity F race with a time of 15:02.1! That was the second fastest time by a New Jersey runner on Saturday and the 14th fastest of the entire meet!

The Ocean City junior's victory helped lead her team to a third place finish with 154 points and a 16:59.5 average. That scoring five also included Chloe Care 6th 15:56.4, Gabrielle Henry 40th 17:39.5, Frankie Ritzel 54th 18:04.3, and Lillian Flora 63rd 18:15.2. Their lone displacer was Avery Bertett 130th 21:56.6.

Chloe Care, Ocean City's second scorer, was also the sixth fastest time of the day for New Jersey with that 15:56.4.

St. Dominic Academy was 21st scoring 625 points averaging 22:40.6. They were led by senior Emma Lee in 125th running 21:03.3. 

Freshmen Race Highlights

West Windsor-Plainsboro North's Nina Dixit had the top New Jersey freshmen time running 11:16.70 over the 2400m course, she finished 33rd in the Freshmen B race.
