Vena Tosses Bomb as Action Heats Up at County Relays

MADISON, NJ - In early action at the 36th Annual Morris County Relay Championships, it's been reported that Nick Vena (Morristown HS) tossed a new indoor personal best.  Vena bettered his already US#1 throw on the season with a toss of 70-5.25.    The 70-footer came on his 4th throw after a 66', 67' and a 58' that was said to have slipped out of his hand.  This is not the 1st time that Vena has cracked 70 feet indoors.  He first cracked the barrier in last March at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York.  Once again this season Vena has bettered his already junior class record of 67-8.25 in December.

In other action at the relays, Pat Schelberg (Delbarton) leads his DMR squad to victory in 10:45.63 with an unofficial split of 4:25.5.  He then came back in the 4x800m to run leadoff and put his team in the running with a 2:01.2 split.  Morristown would take the lead from Delbarton and on the heels of Anchor Hamer Farag would take the title in 8:23.25.

On the girls side Joelle Amaral (Randolph) lead her team to a Distance Medley title anchoring the 1600m leg in 5:20.x for an overall relay time of 12:50.50.  The Mendham girls rocketed to victory in the 4x200m relay running a fast 1:50.27 just shy of the meet record set in 2006 by Chatham (1:49.72).  More to come with complete results HERE
