On Friday during the CYUP Misfits Invitational in Chicago, IL junior distance runner Miranda Lorsbach clocked a 4:58.45 NJ No. 2 time competing in the 1600m.
While running for the Garden State TC Lorsbach finished eighth in an elite field of girls which saw 10 run athletes go under five minutes and the top three all under 4:55.
The race was won by Josephine Welin of Oak Park-River Forest (IL) with a 4:52.20. You can watch the full race above thanks to MileSplit IL's coverage.
Lorsbach has been dropping quick times from the 1600m to the 5K all year, she just missed cracking 5 minutes at the VA Showcase back in January running 5:01.21.
During the 2020 indoor season New Jersey saw nine girls run under 5 minutes in the 1600m / converted mile. So far without the same amount of quality opportunities as a state in 2021 we've already seen two New Jersey girls under the mark with Lorsbach now at No. 2 and her GSTC teammate Camryn Wennersten with 4:51.52c from the East Coast Invitational leading the state and ranked US No. 9.
