Parsippany, Chatham, Mendham, Mountain Lakes Win At NJAC

The Parsippany boys won its first title, the NJ #5 Mendham girls won its third straight, and the Chatham boys and Mountain Lakes girls captured its first titles since 2014 at the NJAC Championships that concluded on Wednesday at Greystone Park in Morris Plains. 

Individually, junior Adam Angelone of Madison (15:56) and junior Madison Orlins of Mendham (18:45) clocked the top times of the meet.

In the Small Schools boys competition, the Parsippany boys made history by putting four runners ahead of High Point's No. 2 runner and averaging 17:37 on the way to a 63-89 victory over High Point.

The top five for Parsippany were senior Dominic Romero (16:56), sophomore Liam Hansberry (17:24), senior Joel Hernandez-Mendoza (17:41), senior Jacob Meth (17:47),  and junior Robert Anderson (18:17).

Angelone, who won the NJ. Sec. 2 Group 2 title last year, captured the individual title by 28 seconds.

The Mountain Lakes girls returned to the winners circle in the Small School competition for the first time in six years by edging Madison, 55-61. That avenged the loss Mountain Lakes suffered to Madison last year when Madison won the title by four points over Mountain Lakes. 

Mountain Lakes, led by fifth-place finisher Grace Wills (20:14) went 4-7-11-12-21 and averaged 21:07. Madison countered by grabbing scoring positions 2-3-13-17-26 and averaging 21:01.

Freshman Jessica Diamond of Whippany Park captured the individual title with a huge PR of i19:08, 38 seconds ahead of Madison senior Jamie Habib, the NJ. Sec. 2 Group 1 champ last year.

In the Large School races, the Chatham boys, sophomore Brian Boler of Delbarton, and the Orlins-led Mendham girls dominated.

Chatham ended Mendham's run of three straight titles by finishing on top for the first time in six years with a very impressive 65-107 victory over runner-up Delbarton.

Chatham put three runners in the top eight and averaged 16:40 and had a 1-5 spread of 55 seconds. Sophomore Ryan Beegle led the charge for the Cougars by finishing third in 16:16, a big drop of 22 seconds off his previous PR.   

Boler, a rising star, won the boys individual title by seven seconds with a big personal best of 15:58.   

In the girls Large School race, Orlins ran away with the race in 18:45 to ignite a 1-2-9-10-11 finish for Mendham, which rolled to a 33-57 over runner-up Chatham. Mendham averaged 19:53 and put all seven of its runners in the top 15.
