South Brunswick swept the team titles for the second straight year, and Reyden Davies and Nikhila Obbineni captured the individual titles at Saturday's Greater Middlesex Conference Championships at Thompson Park in Jamesburg.

Obbineni, a senior, ran 18:58 became the fourth girl from South Brunswick to win the GMC title as she led the Vikings to its fourth straight title and a new Middlesex County course record average for Thompson Park of 19:40. The South Brunswick girls have now won 11 overall titles, the second most in meet history behind Old Bridge's 14.

The Vikings went 1-3-4-7-14 to outscore runner-up Metuchen, 24-40. The 19:40 average by South Brunswick broke the Middlesex County course record for Thompson of 19:50 that South Brunswick ran at the GMC Red Division Championships last month. The Metuchen girls averaged 20:00, which broke its school record for Thompson Park.

In the boys race,  South Brunswick outscored runner-up East Brunswick, 44-60, and Old Bridge was third with 61. South Brunswick, which has now four overall GMC boys titles (all since 2013),  went 2-3-6-11-22 and had a 1-5 compression of 52 seconds.

Davies, who crossed the line first in 16:21, became the fourth boy from East Brunswick to win the GMC title, and the first since Alex Shatskov in 2002.

Wil Rivera, the head boys and girls coach at South Brunswick, was pumped about the team sweep.

"I'm proud of how they competed,' said Rivera  "It's never easy to repeat and to have both guys and girls do it again is a testament to the kids, and the work they've put in.''
