On Wednesday afternoon at Holmdel HS day one of Monmouth County Championships brought us some record breaking excitement.
In the boys 1600 meter Tim McInerney of Christian Brothers Academy and Drew Maher of Shore Regional went head to head and it didn't disappoint. After Maher led the way for most of the race McInerney put on the jets with 200 meters to go and never looked back running 4:10.75 to take down the meet record of 4:13.88 held by Craig Forys of Colts Neck since 2007.
Drew Maher, the indoor Meet of Champions winner in the event, had to settle for second with his own impressive time of 4:13.91. He is coming off a third place finish at Penn Relays in the mile where he ran 4:11.94.
The action for this meet continues on Friday evening.
