New Jersey had quite a night at the Millrose Games Trials on Wednesday in New York. Below we have a table with all the National Elite performances from the state recorded at this meet.
The Union Catholic boys found themselves winning the 4x800 meter with a US#1 time of 7:55.74, they are the only squad to break eight minutes so far this season. The official splits and legs went as follows: Greg Gibbs 2:00.99, Branden Roach 3:58.83, Nate Papachristos 1:59.29, and Justin Cadas 1:57.62.
Also earning a US#1 slot was the East Orange Campus boys who ran a winning time of 3:17.45 in the 4x400 meter, the only relay crew to break 3:21 so far in 2017. That team consisted of: Willesley Lindo 49.86, Akeem Lindo 48.95, Immyouri Etienne 50.06, and Cory Poole 48.58.
Jersey had three other winners as well. In the one mile run Elliot Gindi of Ocean Twp, who won the NJSIAA Meet of Champions this past fall, opened up his season with a big time win running 4:20.79 NJ#1 US#12 on the converted 1600 meter list, recorded 4:05.27 at the 1500 meter.
The Winslow Twp girls also won the Suburban Division of the 4x400 meter with a time of 3:57.71 NJ#1 US#6. That was the second fastest time of the meet only behind New York's West Babylon who won the Long Island Division with a 3:56.41 US#5. Winslow split Iyianna Williams 1:00.21, Flora Ahiarakwe 57.29, Maryn Hess 1:02.43, and Shakira Dancy 57.78.
In the 55 meter dash New Jersey finished 1-2-3! The finish was a nail biter between Our Lady of Mercy Academy star Iyanla Kollock and Aliyah Taylor of Rancocas Valley. Kollock earned the win with a 7:03 NJ#1 US#7 (7.022) just ahead of Aliyah Taylor in second with 7.03 (7.024) NJ#2 US#7. Amaya Chadwick of Union Catholic earned third running 7.19 NJ#3. This will be a match-up to watch during state championships.
Other state highlights include Briana Gess' return in the mile where she placed third running 5:01.67 NJ#1, a split of 2:36.5 midway. Kingsway ran NJ#1 US#5 in the girls 4x800 meter with a 9:32.18.
