Interview | Sydney McLaughlin Return to the Track

Some big performances were going on during the live stream of the Wayne Gardiner Holiday Relays. One of them was the track competition return of an Olympian.

Sydney McLaughlin returned to the track Wednesday night for the first time since her Olympic run this summer, she had opened up her season the previous weekend hitting a 20-7.25 long jump at the Hall of Fame Invitational. She ran the first 200 meter leg of a sprint medley relay splitting 23.5. That Union Catholic team ended up finishing first with a meet record time of 4:17.76 NJ#1 US#3, an impressive early season performance.

The previous record was set at 4:18.07 in 2006 by Morris Knolls.

McLaughlin also once again competed in the long jump, leading the meet with a 19-11.75. When asked if we'll see more of this event in the future she noted that we'll probably see more of it this season and it could possibly be a Nationals event for her.

Splits from the full team...

400m - 59.0 Morant, Leena

200m - 23.5 McLaughlin, Sydney

200m - 25.6 Chadwick, Amaya

800m - 2:29 Lamadieu, Cassandra

Union Catholic also had some other great performances, such as their meet record 31.26 in the 4x51.5 shuttle hurdles.
