Mary Cain Speaks at RunningWorks Cross Country Camp

Cane and Tim Callinan, counselor and Cinnaminson coach

RunningWorks Cross Country Camp has routinely surprised the campers by introducing many elite athletes as counselors or speakers.

This year, RunningWorks brought in top distance racer and Nike athlete, Mary Cain, to speak to the campers. In 2012, Mary broke the National High School Outdoor 1500 meter record. She is the youngest American athlete ever to represent the United States at a World Championships meet after competing in the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, placing 10th in the 1500 meters. In 2014, she was the US Junior World Champion, running 8:58.48 for 3,000 meters.

Mary spoke to the runners about her high school and professional careers and her goals for the future. She took many questions from the audience and was both lighthearted and sincere in her responses. It was great to have someone who had reached the highest levels of athletic success at such a young age! Besides talking to the runners, Mary was very gracious with her time, signing hundreds of autographs and posing for what seemed like a million pictures!
