Well it was a great start to the State Relays saga. The meet ran quick and great battles occurred all throughout the competition. The two teams who really went back and forth were the talented Old Bridge and South Brunswick boys teams. South Brunswick would finish with 40 points and 3 golds, while Old Bridge just fell short in the end with 36 points and 2 golds. A big turning point in the standings race came during the Sprint Medley Relay; Old Bridge had a solid lead before Morgan Murray decided to run his 1:56 low and kick his team (Rajiv Mukundan, Elijah Suggs, and Alex, Kainer) to a winning time of 3:36.30. Just before that race Old Bridge had momentum off of their 4x200m victory with a 1:33.28 posted by Jayson Bilbert, Marcus Hernandez, Alex Leto, and Hazem Miawad.
Another awesome story came from the DMR when everyone realized Dylan Tarpey wasn't racing in the Freehold Twp boy's relay. A team made up of Jake Simon, Nasir Haines, Chris Cardace, and Joe Lundberg showed heart and comradery as they stole the show running a 10:36.75 for the gold. Jake Simon as the senior on the squad made sure that they would bring it home for the team; he made a huge kick to finish ahead of Ridgewood by less than a second.
In the Pole Vault the Hunterdon Central boys Alex Kossak and Tyler Bernstein tied the All-Time State Relays record of 28-00 as both jumped 14-00!!
There were great performances throughout the meet, below the National Standard Elites are listed, as well as all of the event winners. Congratulations to everyone especially the South Brunswick boys who won their second straight title! They posted 34 points for the victory last year.
