At the Monmouth County Relays on Sunday junior David Alston of Matawan cleared 6-8.. and then the bar fell off as he rose on the mat. He went back to setup for another run, this time with even more of a crowd which gathered after hearing the first roar from the just miss. He ran toward the mat again, nailed his jump, the crowd froze for a moment before erupting again as Alston enjoyed clear sailing for a perfect clearance over the bar. That gave him the state lead and tied the US#3 height.
He came close to clearing 6-10 after that but settled for his new personal record of 3 inches. Watch the interview above for his goals this season and his view on his early season accomplishments.
