Q&A with World Junior Qualifier and North Schuylkill Alum Brendan Shearn Press Release PennTrackXC.com Jul 10, 2014

North Schuylkill Alum Brendan Shearn has had an impressive first season at the University of Pennsylvania. The North Schuylkill alum was a varsity performer for the cross country team, scoring in every competition for the Quakers in 2013 on their way to a 4th place finish at the 2013 NCAA Mid Atlantic Regional Championships at Lehigh University. In track, Shearn earned a top five finish while running a personal best at The Penn Relays in the 10000 meter run (29:49.04). That performance earned him a ticket to the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Championships, where he would go on and finish 20th out of 48 runners. Shearn extended his outdoor season and competed in the 10000 meter run at the USATF Junior National Championships, earning a runner up finish and a ticket to the IAAF World Youth Championships later this month! PennTrackXC caught up with the former two time state champion and got some of his thoughts on his first collegiate season, his performance at Junior Nationals and the upcoming World Youth meet.

Sierra Brabham-Lawrence doesn't back down from the competition... and she is only getting better! Apr 23, 2014

Harrisburg junior Sierra Brabham-Lawrence is a hurdles. Everything from 55 and 60 indoor, to 100, 300 (and hopefully next year, 400) outdoor. She made the semi's in AAA as a sophomore... and as a junior, medaled with a 7th place finish in the 100. Because of budget cuts, she did not run indoor until this past season, and in her first crack at the shorter race, she won a state title and tied the state meet record. At NBNI - fighting an illness - she made the semis. This spring she immediately went in the top of the 100 hurdles rankings, and is currently PA#2. And her 300m Hurdles from Pan-Ram remains PA#1. This season she added the triple jump, and in her first competition went to PA#1. She is currently PA#2.

A serious throwing arm injury took Emily Stauffer out of competition. But hey, she has two arms! Apr 16, 2014

Emily Stauffer of Cocalico won the indoor shot put title as a freshman. And followed that up with a silver medal at the PIAA Outdoor Championships. But this winter just as she finished a string or PR's (indoor or outdoor), she injured her throwing arm. The injury required surgery. But instead of sitting back and just doing rehab and watching other compete, she asked, and received the OK to try the shot put from the left. And guess what? She is getting better all the time, and is hoping to place at District in May. PennTrackXC had a few questions for this remarkable and quite resilent, athlete.
