Following Don Bosco Prep’s victory at the Non Public Group A Males’ Relays, NJRunners caught up with Don Bosco Prep throwers, Matthew Rogalski and Chris D’Amico.

“We had high expectations coming in, we both woke up around 5:00 today, warmed up together and prayed together,” said Rogalski. “We’re like brothers. We’re a really good relay and support each other when were down. All of our throws increased today.”

Heading into the meet the meet, Rogalski and D’Amico were aiming for measurements in the 45 and 50 foot range respectively. Rogalski came up short by only about seven inches, while team mate D’Amico managed almost a whole foot over his goal.

“We were very close to our goal,” said D’Amico. “Basically it’s the motivation we give each other. We gave each a pregame speech and through it we had a good start to the day.”

Don Bosco Prep’s total of 95-03.75 was closely challenged by second place Christian Brothers Academy score of 93-05.00. D’Amico and Rogalski agree with each other, in that there are tweaks they can do to improve upon their throws.

“I didn’t think my throws weren’t too bad,” said Rogalski. “Even though I PRed, I need to get through the circle more. I just learned a new glide about two weeks and there are a few mechanical things I can work out for the spring.”

“You know I had a lot of things wrong with that throw [50-11.25],” said D’Amico. “I know there’s a lot of things to improve on. I am going to keep strength training, work on my flexibility, and most importantly my form. If I bring my hips around more, I know I can throw even farther.”

Both D’Amico and Rogalski set new personal records for themselves at the meet. D’Amico nailing that 50 foot mark and Rogalski overtook his old PR by half an inch.
