Big Night for NJ @ Millrose

The Millrose Games moved to a new home for the 2012 version (the 105th edition) and the outstanding performance of New Jersey runners went along with it. From Ajee and Edweard running with the pros to a dominating win by Myasia in the HS 55m to Christian Brothers sub 3:20 4x4 victory in the Suburban Boys race, it was a pretty big night for the Garden State.

The action actually got started early for NJ athletes as former Hopewell Valley standout Paul Wagner, representing the Shore A.C.,  won the 35lb Weight Throw with a toss of 67-7.5. Wagner improved from the runner up spot last year.

* Then things moved to the track and the New Jersey Girls 4x4 squads Winslow & Weequahic took 3rd (3:58.70) and 5th (3:59.31) respectively in the Suburban HS race.

 

*Next up was the HS Girls 4x800 Relay with 4 teams fronm NJ toeing the line. Red Bank Catholic, running a US #3 9:11.16 took 3rd place ahead of Mount St. Dominic Academy (5th/9:15.45), Lenape (11th/9:38.76) and Morris Hills (13th/9:42.46). Mt. St. Dominc and Lenape with faster times earlier in the year rest at #s 1 & 2 in the National Rankings.

 

*In the HS  Metropolitan Boys 4x800m Relay, an undermanned CBA team finished 6th with a time of 7:58.87. Pleasantville HS came in right behind the Colts with a 7th place showing (7:59.51). CBA remains in the US #1 spot with its 7:41.53

 

*The Suburban HS Boys 4x400m Relay was the next high school event on the track and Christian Brothers came roaring back with a US #3 3:19.61 win. Junior Theo Foster turned in a 48.9. Union Catholic also scored hardware with third in 3:22.00 (US #8). That ended the Relay action for the Jersers and the spotlight moved to the individuals.

 

*The much anticipated Mens 5000 Mter Run was truly one to be remebered as Bernard Lagat powered away from the field to set a new American Record of 13:07.15. The Collegiate record also fell as Lawi Lalang of Arizona ran 3:08.28 to take 2nd. Despite running in "No Mans Land" for most of his race and being lapped late, the phenomanal Edward Cheserek toppled the HS Record and became the first prep to dip under 14 minutes with his 13:57.04.Cheserek went through 3k in 8:13.88 en route.

 

*In the HS 55m Dashes, Malcolm Timoy of Snyder got 4th place on a 6.63 finish and The Paramus Catholis duo of Myasia Jacobs and Jordan Smth took 1st (6.91) and 4th respectivley (7.17) on the Girls side. Jacobs, who is the US leader (6.87) had about a meter and a half gap on the field and closed very strong

 

* A quartet of Jersey Boys answered the gun in the  Larry Byrne New balance High School Mile Run and took 4th with Everett Price at 4:17.38 (New Providence), 5th with Rob Napolitano (Red Bank Catholic) in 4:18.90, 8th with Stephen Lewandowski (Mtn. Lakes) at 4:19.68 and late addition Travis Ellis of Morris Hills in 11th (4:26.66)
