Edward Cheserek..13:57.04 HSR!!!

Much has been written and said about Edward Cheserek since his arrival in the US and his enrollment at Newark's St. Benedict's Prep ninteen months ago. Very few runners have had the impact on the national scene in such a short period of time as he has.  His eyes are set on some lofty goals, but he  seems to have his head in the right place. This coming Saturday, in the 5000 Meter Run, at the Millrose Games, Edward will toe the line with some of the premier distance runners in the country, incuding Bernard Lagat. In this race Cheserek will take a shot at the US High School Record for the distance.

Last wednesday (2/1) at the Poreda Invitational in Lawrenceville, NJRunners and noted NJ Track writer Jim Lambert got the opportunity to sit down with Edward Cheserek and his coach, Marty Hannon to discuss a wide range of subjects related to Edwards running, his assimilation to the United States and the subject of his age. We hope you find this as interesting to watch as it was for us to do it.

February 11 Update

Tonight in the above mentioned 5000 Meter Run at the Millrose games, Edward Cheserek broke the US High School Record with a time of 13:57.04. Not only is the time a new national record, it makes Edward the 1st US High School runner to go below 14 minutes for the distance
