Hurricane Irene Forces Clementon Park Race Cancellation

3rd Annual Clementon Park - Splash World Race Postponed

The third annual Clementon Park and Splash World Classic, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 18, due to the looming hurricane.

With Hurricane Irene expected to bring heavy rain and high winds Saturday night and Sunday, race officials were concerned about the runners’ safety.

A record 400 runners have pre-registered for the 5K race, 1-mile fun run and 40-yard Splash World Sprint (ages 5-10). Registration has been extended for three weeks.

The entry fee is $20 per person before Friday, Sept. 16, and $25 per person on race day. Groups of 20 or more can use the event as a fundraiser. The Courier-Post and Kiwanis Club of the Haddons, organizers of the event, will donate $10 from each entry fee back to the group.

Groups can submit all registration forms and fees together or individually. Entrants must include the group name on their forms.
All participants will receive free admission to the theme parks on race day ($43 value) and a free ticket to the Camden Riversharks’ season finale that night at Campbell’s Field ($13 value). The first 500 pre-registered entrants also will receive a free Clementon Park and Splash World Classic T-shirt.

Running Company gift certificates will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers and the male and female masters (40-and-over) winners in the 5K race. Plaques will go to the top three finishers in 23 age divisions. Medals will be awarded to all participants in the Splash World Sprint.

Registration and packet pickup will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The 1-mile fun run will follow at 8:35, the 5K race at 9, the Splash World Sprint at 9:45, a free sports and entertainment raffle at 10 and the awards ceremony at 10:15. The parks open at 11.

Proceeds from the Clementon Park and Splash World Classic will go to the Walt Burrows Scholarship Fund. Money from the fund, named for the legendary Courier-Post sports writer, is awarded annually to 20 South Jersey high school scholar-athletes at a banquet in their honor.

Entry forms will continue to be printed several days a week in the Courier-Post. Participants also can register online at courierpostonline.com/clementonrace.
