Leah Starkey dropped the first eye-popping performance of the NJSIAA Sectional Championships when she completey destroyed
the All-Time Sectional Record in 3,200-meter run at the Central Jersey, Group 2 Championships on Friday night at Middletown North High School.
The super sophomore at Ocean Township ran 9:48.62, which is the third fastest time in NJ history!!!!
Starkey's time obliterated the ALl-Time Secctional record (all sections and groups combined) of 10:07.48 set at the 2022 North Jersey, Section 1 Group 2 Championships by Angelina Perez of Lakeland.
The time by Starkey, who won the 2-mile at the Nike Indoor National Championships in March in 9:48.02, is now third on NJ's all-time outdoor list, just off the NJ record of 9:45.29 that Lawrenceville junior Blair Bartlett ran two weeks ago ago at the State Prep A Championships, and just behind the NJ No. 2 all-time 9:46.78 that senior Allison Lee of West Windsor-Plainsboro North ran on April 27 at the Holmdel Twlight Meet.
That's right-the three fastest times in NJ outdoor history in the 3,200m have all been run in the last three weeks!!!
The girls' distance running talent in this state is simply mind-blowing!!!
