Although we have only completed 2 full weeks of the spring season, most teams at the Shore Conference have had at least one tri-meet and we can see the standings start to shape up. As has been the case in most years, it will probably take an undefeated record to win any division.
The undefeated teams on the Shore with at least 3 meets under their belt so far are:
Boys: CBA (4-0), Rumson Fair-Haven (3-0), Matawan (3-0), Southern Regional (3-0), Long Branch (5-0), Lakewood (4-0) and Jackson Liberty (3-0).
Girls: Matawan (3-0), Mater Dei (3-0), and Monsignor Donovan (3-0).
Some notable dual meet marks from this week:
-
Lakewood senior Essence Mayers again going better than 18’ in the long jump (18’ 6”) putting the rest of the Shore Conference on notice that they’re probably all vying for second place at the conference meet in a few weeks.
-
Samantha Jensen of Central recorded a 14.2 in the 100h which is a big PR for her and a school record, breaking the 14.5 mark set 3 years ago by then senior (now Monmouth University hurdler) Gabby Ciampoli. Jensen is one of the top hurdlers on the Shore and medaled this winter in the 55h at the MOC.
-
Speaking of MU, future MU student-athlete Kate Frye of Point Boro won 4 events and went sub 12 in the 100m and 25.1 in the 200 (both school records) in a losing effort against a deep Monsignor Donovan team.
-
Matawan multi-eventer Dylan Spadaccini continues his divisional dominance with the pole vault and his sprinting. He has cleared 13” several times in the PV this spring and his 13’ 6” mark at the Holmdel Relays Saturday was best vault overall. As the weather and the competition levels heat up, look for him to raise the bar and pace the Shore.
