Jasmine Jackson of Winslow smashed the NJ sophomore record in the girls' 100-meter hurdles when she burned one the fastest times in state history at Saturday's Puma East Coast International Showcase at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Jackson, who won the 55m hurdles at the Indoor Meet of Champions in March, won the battle over the barriers in a wind-legal 13.39!!! That places Jackson No. 5 on NJ's all-time list, it shattered the NJ sophomore record of 13.52 that Taylor Cox of Union Catholic ran at the 2023 U-20 Championships at Hayward Field in Oregon, and it's tied for No. 7 in the nation this season.
Prior to Saturday, Jackson's PR was the 13.73 that she ran to place second in the Freshmen Division at the New Balance National Championships last June at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
With her 13.39, Jackson joins some fast company on the state's all-time high school list.
The only three hurdlers in NJ high school history who have run faster than Jackson are Cox (state record 13.18 at the Meet of Champions last June), Dawn Bowles of Neptune (13.20 in 1985), the legendary Sydney McLaughlin of Union Catholic (13.34 at the 2014 New Balance Nationals), and Charmaine Walker of Plainfield (13.35 at the 1997 State Group 4 Championships).
