The North Brunwsick boys repeated as champions and the Old Bridge girls won a thriller at the Greater Middlesex Conference Championships on Sunday at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

In the girls competition, Old Bridge rallied to edge defending champion South Brunswick by 2 points while the North Brunswick boys rolled to victory over runner-up South Brunswick.


OLD BRIDGE GIRLS WIN FRIST TITLE IN 12 YEARS 

Old Bridge placed second in the meet-concluding 4x400-meter relay to edge South Brunswick, 65-63, to capture their first title since 2014 and their 14th overall. Old Bridge's 14 titles are the second most in meet history behind gthe 16 won by South Brunswick.

Heading into the meet-concluding 4x400, South Brunswick led Old Bridge, 63-57, but the foursome of Victoria Botte, Natalia Tywanek, Keila Butters and Danielle Boateng combined to run 4:12.32 to finish a clutch second to earn eight points, which propelled the Knights past the Vikings, who didn't score in the 4x400. 

The strong anchor carry by Boateng capped off a hige day for the senior star.

Boateng also won the 400 in 58.43 and she repeated as champipn in the 55 dash with a time of 7.21!!

Old Bridge also picked up a big victory from Botte in the 800 as she stopped the clock at 2:23.18. 

The other point scorers for the Knights were Tatum Jones, second in the 55 hurdles, Tetiana Kontsohrada, second in the shot put, Samantha Ciaccia, fourth in the 800, Michelle Aluko, fourth in the high jump, and Victoria Allain, fourth in the shot put.    


NORTH BRUNSWICK BOYS CONTINUE HISTORIC SEASON

North Brunswick, ignited by double winner Jamelle Wilmote, received points from 13 different athletes on the way to a 95-73 victory over runner-up South Brunswick.

It's the second straight title and second overall for the Raiders, who also repeated as State Group 4 Relay champions earlier this month.

Wilomte, a senior, continued his torrid season in the sprints, repeating as champion in both the 55 dash in 6.55 and the 400 in 49.38.

Junior Michael Perry, the state's co-leader in the 55 hurdles with a 7.32, led a 1-2-4 finish for the Raiders by winning the high hurdles in 7.43, and he ran 6.73 to finish fourth in the 55 dash. Elvin Marte Feliz was second in tyhe HH 7.62 and Schwann Grimes III was fourth (7.80)

North Brunswick flexed its balance by piling up several points in the field.

The Raiders went 1-3 in the high jump with Aniyh Hall (6-6) and state leader Tyler O'Garro (6-4). O'Garro has cleared NJ season best of 7-0 this season. North Brunswick also picked up a 2-4-5 in the pole vault from Kyal Vreeland (12‑6), Johnathan Branz (10‑6) and Oliver Lizardo Pena (10‑0), and finished 2-4 in the shot put with Reddrick Robinson Jr. (47‑11.25) and Olatomiwa Osho (46‑2.50).
