Jordaine Johnson of East Orange Campus shattered the New Jersey record when he finished second in the 300-meter dash at the 117th Millrose Games on Saturday at the Nike Track and Field Center at the Armory in New York.
Johnson stopped the clock at 33.01 to take down the state record of 33.26 set by the late Mario Heslop of Franklin at the 2018 Dr. Sander Invitational on the same track. Johnson's 33.01 places him No. 9 on the all-time U.S. high school list.
The University of Florida-bound Johnson finished second to future Florida Gators teammate Jayden Horton-Mims of Imhotep Institute Charter in Philadelphia, who equaled the national record of 32.64, which Brian Herron of Georgia ran at the 2018 Virginia Showcase
Johnson's splits were 11.08 for 100 and 21.25 for 200 before closing in 11.76 over the final 100.
