The Haddonfield boys and girls became the first program in 12 years to sweep the NJSIAA Group 2 Relay titles when they broke out the brooms on Thursday night at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
Matawan is the last Group 2 program to win both Group 2 titles, pulling off the daily double in 2013.
GIRLS WINS 10TH TITLE
The Haddonfield girls repeated as champions and won their fourth title in six years and 10th overall with a 58-44 victory over Rumson.
Haddonfield's 10 titles are tied with Columbia, Union Catholic, and Hopewell Valley for the second most by a girls' team in state history. Willingboro owns the state record with 11 relay championships.
Haddonfield has now won five titles in both Group 1 (2000, 2001, 2003, 2014 and 2016) and Group 2 (2017, 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025).
It was a dominating all-round effort for the Bulldogs, who won the shuttle hurdles, placed second in 5 events, and scored in eight of the nine events.
Haddonfield's victory came in the shuttle hurdles when seniors Maeve Hurly, Audrey Adams, and Nicolette Pinkerton teamed up with sophomore Finnley Ritter to run 33.01.
CLUTCH FINISH IN 4X400 GIVES HADDONFIELD BOYS DRAMATIC WIN
Haddonfield's 4x400 came up with a huge fifth place finish in an unseeded heat in the meet-concluding race to give the Bulldogs a heart-pounding 42-41 victory over Willingboro.
With Haddonfield leading Willingboro, 40-31, Willingboro won the 4x400 for 10 points and juniors Aaron Keith, Peter Simpson, Brandon Stoner, and Connor Williams combined to run 3:39.80 to place second in their heat and fifth overall for two points. Haddonfield edged Rumson, who ran in the seeded heat, by just .44 to secure fifth place and the team title.
This is the first title ever for Haddonfield in Group 2 and it's seventh overall. The other six titles came in Group 1 (1989, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2010 and 2014).
Haddonfield won the 4x800, and placed second in the DMR, SMR, and shuttle hurdles, and placed third in the pole vault, and earned a pivotal tie for sixth place in the high jump.
