McMahon And Roskowski Burn Top Times At Magee Meet

Brenden McMahon of Ridge and Daphne Roskowski of Voorhees threw down the fastest times and the Columbia boys and Mendham girls captured the overall team titles on a hot day at the NJCTC Bernie Magee Class Meet on Saturday at Greystone.

In the loaded boys Senior Division, McMahon led four runners under 16 minutes with his winning time of 15:37, just off his PR at Greystone. Last year, McMahon ran 15:35 at Greystone to win the North Jersey, Sec. 2 Group 4 title. Lukas Disko of Bridgewater-Raritan (15:49), Tommy O'Brien of St. Peter's Prep (15:58), and Chase Kober of North Hunterdon (15:59) finished 2-3-4. 

Brody Watt of Bernards ran the second fastest time of the day, crossing the line first in the Junior Division race in 15:43, a 20-second Greystone PR!!! His previous Greystone was 16:03 at the Magee meet last year. Marcus Valenzuela of Chatham was second in 15:58.

In the boys' team competition, No. 18 ranked Chatham, which averaged 16:32, finished on top in the merge, 114--160 over No. 19 North Hunterdon, who averaged 16:46.

In the overall team standings, which combines the sophomore, junior, and senior divisions, Columbia won the overall team title by edging Ridge, 181-193. Columbia is a team to keep an eye on. The Cougars have of lots of depth, and a strong pack, and are hungry to make a deep postseason run.   

In the girls' competition, Roskowski won the Junior Division race at 18:45, the fastest girls' time of the meet. Kelly Shanklin of North Hunterdon was second in 18:59. One of the best races of the meet came in the girls' Senior Division competition where Maya Van Horn of Morris County Tech ran 18:50 to defeat runner-up Delana Einreinhofer of Wallkill Valley,  who ran 18:59. 

North Hunterdon ranked No. 12 in the state, finished on top in the girls merged scoring, 126-173. North Hunterdon averaged 20:13 and Cranford averaged 20:39. Mendham won the overall girls team title, 260-304 over Westfield.
