NJ's Brosnan Earns Gold Medal At European XC Championships

Shane Brosnan, who starred at Union Catholic High School, earned a gold medal by running on Ireland's winning team in the men's Under-20 Division at the European Cross-Country Championships on Sunday at Laeken Park in Brussels, Belgium.

Brosnan (on the far right in the photo above) was the No. 5 man for Ireland with a time of 17:11, which placed him 28th overall on the muddy 5K layout. Ireland edged Great Britain, 22-24, for the gold!

The performance by Brosnan, who led UC to the NJ XC Meet of Champions title in 2021 and won the 1,600 at the 2022 NJ Indoor Meet of Champions, caps off a great cross-country season for the sophomore at Harvard.

Last month, Brosnan was the No. 4 runner for Harvard (139th overall in 30:57 for 10K), when the Crimson placed 15th at the NCAA XC Championships at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia. In October, Brosnan was Harvard's No. 5 runner and finished 20th overall in 24:45 over 8K to help the Crimson place second at the Heptagonal Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.
