PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Even with the driving rain coming down, Bergen Catholic still left plenty of smoke on the track at the 127th Penn Relays presented by Toyota on Friday at Franklin Field.
Senior Allan Hilton Clarke, junior Kaj Sanders, sophomore Andrew Boakye, and senior Logan Casey executed near flawless stickwork as the foursome blitzed the field by throwing down a 42.37 to win the Northeast Championship 4x100-meter relay race.
Livingston, making its first appearance ever in a sprint relay at Penn, was eighth in 45.02, and Piscataway failed to finish.
BC, who ran a NJ No. 1 41.78 earlier this month, wasn't real happy after running 42.86 in Thursday's 4x100 qualifying heats.
"We knew we were capable of running much faster today,'' said Hilton Clarke. "We didn't have great baton passing yesterday, so we worked on that and cleaned everything up today and we showed everyone what we could do.
Casey said that there's no better feeling than crossing the first at Franklin Field.
"To come here and win a big race on this big stage is just an amazing feeling,'' said Casey. "When I got the baton in the lead and the crowd started going crazy, that just got me so hyped up.
Casey said the best is yet to come for BC's sprint crew.
"We are coming for that county record,'' Casey said of the 41.71 that Teaneck ran at the 2010 New Balance Nationals. '"We are getting that real soon.''
